Brandt’s hedgehog is a species of desert hedgehog native to parts of the Middle East and Central Asia. It is named after the German naturalist Johann Friedrich von Brandt, who first described the species in 1836.
Brandt’s hedgehog has a distinctive appearance, with a spiny coat that ranges in color from light brown to dark gray. Its body is small and compact, with short legs and a pointed snout. Unlike some other species of hedgehogs, Brandt’s hedgehog has only four toes on its front feet, which is a unique characteristic that sets it apart from other hedgehog species.
Brandt’s hedgehog is nocturnal and solitary, spending most of its time in burrows or crevices during the day and emerging at night to search for food. Its diet consists mainly of insects, but it may also eat small vertebrates, such as lizards and rodents, as well as plant matter. Brandt’s hedgehog has a high speed, it is usually active at night and hibernates in cold seasons.
