The Common Pipistrelle, also known as the Common Pipistrelle Bat, is a small species of bat that is found throughout wide areas of the European continent, Turkey, Iran, Central Asia, India and Pakistan, and eastern China.
The Common Pipistrelle is a small bat, with a wingspan of approximately 20-25 centimeters and a weight of around 3-8 grams. It has brownish-grey fur, and its ears are relatively short and rounded.
It is an insectivorous bat that feeds on small flying insects such as moths, mosquitoes, and midges. Common Pipistrelles are highly social animals and are known to roost in large groups, sometimes numbering in the hundreds or even thousands. They roost in a variety of locations, including trees and buildings. During the winter months, they hibernate in caves, mines, and other underground locations to conserve energy.
Like all bats, Common Pipistrelles use echolocation to navigate and locate prey in the dark. They emit high-frequency sounds that bounce back to their ears, allowing them to determine the location, size, and distance of their prey.
